a woman undergoing electroshock - The International Campaign to Ban Electroshock (ICBE) deems ECT to be unethical, barbaric, inhumane, torture, and a crime against humanity

Welcome to the The ICBE website.  The ICBE is working together with other people and groups  around the world to help ban ECT universally.

Sue Clark-Wittenberg and her husband Steven Wittenberg founded the ICBE in 2007 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  The ICBE has no funding. 

Sue is an electroshock survivor.  Sue says “There is torture in Canada and it is called electroshock.  Electroshock must be banned universally.  Electroshock is also known as ECT, electroconvulsive therapy, and shock therapy.  The time is now to help end electroshock universally and with your help we can.  See the our website section called “Actions to Take”.

Sue says  psychiatry is the biggest medical fraud going on today.  

Dr. Peter R. Breggin a psychiatrist from New York  has been speaking out publicly against the use of electroshock for over 30 years.  Dr.Breggin wrote an article in 2007 about ECT called “Disturbing News for Shock Doctors and Patients Alike”  In his article at the URL:

Breggin states that electroshock ECT always causes brain damage according  to an ECT study that was done recently.

The ICBE was demanding that all Canadian governments ban electroshock. Steven and Sue are pacifists and believe in non-violence in our political action activities. We only organize peaceful ECT protests.

The ICBE has CANCELLED its May 10th, 2009 ECT protest this year in Ottawa. The ICBE will hold an ECT protest next year in May 2010. Date and place yet to be determined.

There is proof that ECT always causes brain damage 100% of the time. 

ECT is not safe and never was and nor are the ECT machines either.

Electroshock is also known as ECT, shock, shock therapy and electroconvulsive therapy.  ECT is still around, it never disappeared.

In Canada 130 hospitals give ECT.

Statistics for ECTs given yearly are:

Ontario, Canada – 14,000 (approximate) ECTs given yearly

USA – 100,000 Americans get ECTs yearly

Worldwide – estimated to be 1 to 2 million ECTs given yearly.
